Fans of comic theatre will enjoy the classic Jack the Ripper parody, The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town, at Theatre Royal Winchester on Monday 16 November.
Set in Victorian England, the story tells of a rotten raspberry blower claiming the lives of the upper classes; the dark alleyways and graveyards of Old London Town are alive with the din of the Phantom. But Inspector Corner of the Yard and his faithful sidekick, Sergeant Bowles, are fed up with these din-dins! Will the Phantom now be uncloaked? All will be revealed… particularly if the Phantom uncloaks himself!
Originally written by Spike Milligan and later adapted by Ronnie Barker, The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town is packed with the writer-comedians’ love of surreal absurdism, clever puns, near-the-knuckle ribaldry, quick-fire jokes and famous wordplay.
Now, newly adapted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the sketch’s original broadcast in The Two Ronnies show in 1976, it is presented by Hambledon Productions – a theatre company specialising in new writing and classic comedy whose past productions include Just Like That! 100 Years of Tommy Cooper and The Steptoe and Son Radio Show.
The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Monday 16 November at 7.30pm. For more information or to book tickets visit theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
